How much data does Paladins use

Massively multiplayer online games like Paladins can eat through limited mobile hotspot and fixed mobile data plans, especially if you’re playing on a crowded server. While you can actually play Paladins comfortably on a limited internet connection (online games don’t use as much bandwidth as many people assume), you still might need to keep an eye on your data use.

How much data does playing Paladins use?

Paladins uses about 50 MB of mobile data per hour of play. There are about 1,000 MB in 1 GB, so the game eats through data at a rate of 0.05 GB per hour. Your exact data use will vary on factors like the number of players on the server and the specifications of your gaming system.

How big is the Paladins download?

Platform File size
Microsoft Windows <30 GB
Playstation 4 1.94 GB

Download size is a compressed version of file size, so the download will be smaller. Archive formats used for downloads – like “.zip” or “.rar” – are about half of the unpacked file size.

How big are Paladins updates?

Paladins updates can use as much as 10 GB (Version 1.49), so it’s important to keep an eye on these if you’re working with limited data. For the most up-to-date information on game updates and patches, see Paladins News. Keep these downloads from using too much data by turning off auto-updates in your game or console settings. You can manually update the game instead.

How can you reduce your Paladins data use?

To keep Paladins data use low, there are a few things you can do:

Play on emptier servers. The more players in a game, the more online data like chat text, player movement, and stats your local network has to share with other players. While every Paladins game mode is 5v5, you may be able to save data on quieter community servers.

Play Paladins without voice chat. Voice chat can increase your data use to 110 MB per hour, so it isn’t great if you’re tight on data. Here’s how to turn off Paladins voice chat.

Play on a slower server. Most game servers have a tick rate of either 64 or 128 Hz. A 64 tick server refreshes the game 64 times a second, or approximately once every 15 milliseconds. A 128 tick server syncs with clients 128 times a second or once every 8 milliseconds. It also uses about twice as much data. To save data, choose community servers with lower tick rates.

Limit your client update rate. Client update rate is how many times per second your computer can process the updates it gets from a game server. The real update rate of your game will be the lower of your server tick rate and client update rate. Another key factor, would be to limit your client update rate in your settings to keep data use low when you’re playing on a game server with a high tick rate.

Get more data with fixed wireless internet

To play Paladins without worrying about using too much data, consider a fixed wireless internet connection with a high data cap. This home Wi-Fi connection is ideal for rural gamers who don’t have access to wired internet connections like cable or fiber.
